Assistant Professor- Process Systems Engineering, Materials for Energy- Nazarbayev University


Nazarbayev University, Department of Chemical Engineering invites applications for full-time faculty positions in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering to begin in August 2019. We are primarily interested in candidates for the following two positions:
1.      Assistant Professor, Process Systems Engineering / Design (REF: CHME PSE)
2.      Assistant Professor, Materials for Energy (REF:CHME MFE)

We seek candidates with a commitment to excellence in both research and teaching. A PhD or equivalent degree in Chemical and/or Materials Engineering or a closely related engineering field are required. For position CHME-PSE we seek candidates with expertise in integrated process modeling, design and optimization. Candidates with interest in Big Data analytics and/or AI, as applied to PSE, are also encouraged to apply, as are candidates with experience in industrial design. For position CHME-MFE we seek candidates with expertise and interest in the Materials Engineering aspects of energy generation, conversion and storage. Areas of application include batteries, fuel cells, sensors and solar power. All applicants are expected to have publications in well-ranked journals/conferences in the areas of their expertise. A track record in pursuing and obtaining research funding will be considered an asset.

The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering has graduated its first UG class in 2015 and has recently moved into brand new 2000 m2 facilities and state of the art laboratories. The Department offers Bachelor's, MSc and PhD programs, and attracts some of the best students in Kazakhstan. Areas of research activity include Energy Generation, Conversion and Storage; Environmental Protection, Remediation and Resource Efficiency; Risk Analysis, Aerosol and Climate Sciences; Multiscale Materials Modelling and Processing and Biomedical Engineering. Starting in Fall 2018, the Department has introduced an ABET-compliant undergraduate course of study and a new research-intensive two-year MSc Program in Chemical and Materials Engineering.

Initial appointment is on a 3-year renewable contract. Subsequent appointments can be 5-year/3-year, renewable subject to satisfactory performance. An attractive internationally competitive remuneration package will include:
