CRITERIA FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID FOR STUDENTS OF BACHELOR, MASTER AND PhD

ACADEMIC YEAR 2017-2018

In the academic year 2017-2018, USTH plans to spend 7 billion VND to provide scholarships and financial aid for students in Bachelor, Master and PhD attending training programs at the University, as follows:

1. Scholarship for excellent students

Scholarships rewarded for students with best academic results and achievements in the training specialties of USTH, aiming to motivate and encourage students in their studies (Approximately 20% of Students of Bachelor, Master, and PhD from each academic Department)
Depending on the results of enrollment and academic achievements of Students of Bachelor, Master, and PhD, the SFA Council, officially nominated by the Rector each year, will decide equivalent scholarship level. The scholarships are provided as follows:

2. Internship scholarship

Internship scholarship is awarded for 3rd year students of Bachelor program and 2nd year students of Master program with excellent academic results at USTH to have internship in France as part of USTH learning schedule.
Approximately 10% of students with the highest GPA will achieve the internship Scholarship from 3-6 months in France. USTH will support for living expenses (with Bachelor Program), visa fees, and roundtrip airline tickets Hanoi – Paris.

3. International Diversity Scholarship

International Diversity Scholarship (IS) is to attract more international students to USTH. The ultimate objective of the IS is to promote multi-cultural study and research environment at USTH and strengthen the linkage of USTH and the world. 
International students are required to have GPA ≥ 14/20 or 7/10 or 2.8/4 or equivalent; being potential to be an international student ambassador to foster international linkage between his/her home country and USTH; and nominated by Admission Committee to USTH Scholarship Council.

4. Other scholarships

4.1. Capacity Building Scholarship

The Capacity Building Scholarship (CS) is to provide more opportunities for USTH, VAST’s institutes and centers, and USTH’s MOU partner institutions to strengthen their staffs’ capacity by sending staffs to study at USTH.

4.2. Access Scholarship

The Access Scholarship (AS) is to provide more opportunities for potential students from partner universities and schools in Hanoi and other provinces to access to the study programs at USTH. (Fresh graduates from MOU partner universities or schools enrolling in Bachelor, Master or PhD programs of USTH).

* Values of AS for fresh graduates from partner institutions may be specified in the MOU/agreements but not exceed the amount of 25% tuition fee. 
4.3. Pathway to Success Scholarship

The Pathway to Success Scholarship (PS) is to support USTH’s students who further their study in Master and PhD programs at USTH.

Note: Capacity Building Scholarship (CS), Access Scholarship (AS) and Pathway to Success Scholarship (PS) are available for 1st year of the study programs.

One student may receive Scholarship for excellent student (A1, A2, B1, and B2) plus one of AS, PS scholarship with the total amount not exceed the amount of A1 scholarship.

5.  Support under social policy

Students are eligible for fee exemptions under the Governmental Decree No. 86/2015/NĐ-CP dated 02/10/2015

Supporting amount is appling to the ceiling tuition fees provided at Section 2, Article 5, Chapter II – Governmental Decree No. 86/2015/NĐ-CP dated October 02, 2015) of Prime Minister for students in Students in the field of Natural Sciences; Technology …

Students of the category entitled to support under social policy shall also be considered for receiving USTH fellowship in case they have applied for. The total amount of both categories shall not exceed level A of USTH fellowship.

6. Scholarships from off-campus sources

6.1. Vallet Scholarship

Vallet is the Vallet family name which Odon Vallet is the current representative. Odon is a Doctoral dissertation in the field of law, the religious history of the Sorbonne University which is well-known in the world. Having inherited a great fortune worth 100 million euros, Odon brought all that money to the bank, earning interest every year to give scholarships to young learners in France, Benin and Vietnam. Respecting the scientific-educational activities of the Meetup Vietnam, Prof. Odon Vallet has contributed to the scholarship fund of Meet-up Vietnam. In appreciation of the heart of GS Odon Vallet, Professor Tran Thanh Van has named the scholarship Scholarship Vallet.
Each year, Prof. Odon Vallet and Prof. Tran Thanh Van from Paris, give scholarships directly to young people in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, Da Nang, Hue, Dong Hoi, Vinh and Hanoi.
Over the past 12 years, nearly 18,000 Vallet scholarships have been awarded nationally:

6.2. KOVA Scholarship

The KOVA Award comes from the mind of Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Hoe - Chairman of KOVA Paint Group - who was awarded the Kovalevskaya Prize in 1992 (the noble prize for female scientists in the world).
KOVA Awards and Scholarships are awarded annually to:
- Encourage scientists and applied research projects, bring high economic value and practical benefits to the community.
- Cheer and multiply typical examples in the society of humanitarian work.
- Encourage students to overcome difficulties, study well and who have the passion for scientific research. Nurture young talent to contribute to the country.
