Internship

International

The main goal of the undergraduate program in “Water, Environment, Oceanography” (WEO) at USTH is to bring our students to an international recognized level in the field of Environmental Sciences applied to research or industry applications. The program was built by top scientists and lecturers from Vietnam and France aiming at training highly qualified engineers and researchers.

Through this specialty, WEO will provide the necessary background and knowledge to the students on the current environmental issues (climate change, industrial and agricultural pollution of water, soil and air). After the three years of bachelor program, the graduated students will be specialized in bio-physico-chemistry processes that respect our environment and will be able to improve processes and chemical reactions that they may face in industry. Graduates will be known for their commitment to lifelong learning, social responsibility, professional and ethical responsibilities in implementing sustainable solutions; they will also excel in critical thinking, problem solving and effective communication.

With a strong scientific background associated with practical classes and applied techniques, graduated students will have the opportunity to carry on their study in master degree or to join public or private company.

2. PROGRAM CURRICULUM [Back]

Program Overview

This Bachelor curriculum - Science and Technology - is managed by USTH and follow strictly the Bologna process (3 years with 180 ECTS). The ECTS is based on the principle that 60 credits represent the workload of a full-time student in one academic year. The student workload of a full-time study program in Europe amount in most cases to around 1500-1800 hours per year, therefore 1-credit is equivalent to 25-30 working hours (in class, practice, homework, assignment). The first 2-semesters are constituted the foundation year, including the natural sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology), informatics and English courses.

From the second year, students will be provided with a solid foundation in chemistry, physics, mathematics and communication. The program also builds a core of knowledge on environmental sciences (ecology, environmental water chemistry, soil science, oceanography and hydrology) and offers to the students to master environmental methods and chemical processes to assess environmental impacts, water, soil and air pollution.  To complete and open their background in environmental sciences, students will complete a “group project”, realize a 3 months internship and will participate to elective courses.

Practice and Final Internship

In parallel with lectures, WEO students also have hours of practice in the fully equipped laboratory of the department located in the USTH building. Via these activities, students will master necessary laboratory skills, deeply understand lectures’ knowledge as well as develop problem-solving capability in real cases. The students also have opportunities to join various field trips where they have a chance to apply theory into practice and gain a comprehensive and synthetic view on how to deal with different environmental problems. During the final internship, students of WEO also have many chances to work at top research institutions in Vietnam and abroad on the hottest environmental issues. (See more photos)
