The Department of Water - Environment - Oceanography provides students with lots of hands-on experience, academic opportunities and full of career options after graduation. With the advantage of a public university at international standard with strong support from prestigious universities and research institutes in France in training and research the field of Water - Environment - Oceanography, USTH offers high-quality training programs taught 100% in English with many overseas opportunities for the students and alumni.

Every year, 60% of final-year students have internship opportunities in France, Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, etc. Especially, after graduation, many students receive scholarships to pursue a Master’s or doctoral degrees at prestigious universities and research institutions in France, Finland, South Korea, etc. Let’s take a look at some of the outstanding alumni of the Department of Water - Environment - Oceanography to see where they have currently been to all over the world.

1. Nguyen Viet Anh - Bachelor Gen 2 (2011-2014)

When studying in the 3rd year of the Bachelor’s program in Water - Environment - Oceanography, Viet Anh received Erasmus full scholarship at Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki (ATEITH) in Greece. After graduating from UTSH, Viet Anh spent one year to participate in a non-governmental project at GreenViet Center for Biodiversity Conservation. In 2015, Viet Anh received Erasmus full scholarship for a Master’s degree at Florence University, Italy; The Free University of Brussels (Université libre de Bruxelles - ULB), Belgium. Currently, Viet Anh has worked as a project coordinator at Cat Ba National Park.

2. Tran Ngoc Bich - Bachelor Gen 3 (2012-2015)

Tran Ngoc Bich is an outstanding alumnus from the Department of Water - Environment - Oceanography with 3 consecutive years of achieving USTH’s scholarship. In 2015, Ngoc Bich accomplished a fully-funded internship at UMR Citeres - a research institute at Tours University, France.

With the experience, knowledge and confidence, Ngoc Bich achieved VLIR-UOS Scholarship, which is a full scholarship for the Master’s degree at KU Leuven University, Belgium. Currently, Ngoc Bich has worked at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, the Netherlands.

3. Tran My Linh - Bachelor Gen 3 (2012-2015)

Tran My Linh is an alumnus from the Department of Water - Environment - Oceanography. After graduation, Linh spent one year participating in the Green Finger research project in Vietnam. The confidence, enthusiasm along with the expertise acquired when being a student at USTH helped her achieve a full scholarship for a Master’s degree at the university with the largest campus and facilities in Finland - Oulu University.

4. Nguyen Ngoc Diep - Bachelor Gen 3 (2012-2015)

Nguyen Ngoc Diep is an alumnus from the bachelor and master’s programs at USTH. During the 5 years studying at the university, she had excellent achievements in studies. In 2017, Diep got an internship opportunity at Research Group on Water, Soil and the Environment (GRESE), France. She continued her journey and passion for water treatment after achieving a scholarship for the PhD program at Limoges University, France.

5. Nguyen Duy Tung - Master’s Student Gen 5 (2015-2017)

Nguyen Duy Tung is one of the most successful students of the MSc in Water - Environment - Oceanography at USTH. Graduated from the Department of Environment Science at VNU University of Science, but with a desire of studying abroad, he decided to choose USTH to pursue his dream. In 2017, he achieved an internship scholarship for 6 months at the French National Research Center. After that, he received the Excellence Scholarship awarded by the Embassy of France to pursue a doctoral program at Paul Sabatier University, France.

Nguyen Duy Tung has pursued a PhD degree at University of Paul Sabatier, France.

6. Nguyen Phuong Quynh - Master’s Student Gen 7 (2017-2019)

During the first year at USTH, Quynh achieved an internship opportunity for 3 months at Korea University, South Korea. With the guidance of Prof. Jung Hwan Kwon, she had the first international publication in the “Environmental Geochemistry and Health” journal in South Korea. Currently, she has had a graduation internship at the University of Reims Champagne - Ardenne, France.
