Biotechnology including drug development, biomedicine and plant improvement is a sustainable technology based on renewable biological resources, biodiversity and knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of life. It is thus expected to contribute massively to the global economy and is set to make an indelible contribution to human health and crop improvement and welfare well into the foreseeable future.

Pharmacology, link between health sciences and chemical sciences, represents a fundamental approach for research in health care products. This concerns the development of new drugs and new dosage forms, using natural resources, hemi synthesis and synthesis compounds; this target is an important challenge for the next years in health care.

USTH proposes an international Master Degree in Biotechnology Pharmacology, of 19 teaching units (equiv. 120 ECTS) taught in English. More than 60% of them are taught by international lecturers. The diploma is delivered by USTH and conjointly by a French University and is recognized by the European Union and International University education system. The master course is characterized by academic and practical courses that initiate the student to the top knowledge and cutting-edge technologies in Biotechnology. Two internships in public or private research and development laboratories, in Vietnam or abroad, allow the student to get first professional experiences to conduct and report on a scientific research project. In addition the student is trained in law, economy and management to be familiar with the international regulations and practice operative in international and Vietnamese companies.

The master aims to form managerial R&D staffs of international standard for biotechnology companies, universities and research institutions and open the way to realize a PhD.

Graduated students will embark on a career in research, industry or go further to doctoral studies. After graduation, students will be employed in research institutions and companies in Vietnam and abroad in the relevant fields such as: Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical industry, Cosmetic industry, Agricultural engineering.

This Master’s program is open to all applicants fulfilling the following conditions:

– holding a Bachelor degree or equivalent in Science;

– having a good command of English (equiv. TOEFL 61 or IELTS 5.5);

The USTH aims to combine education and research. For this reason USTH develops in close link with the VAST laboratories and is partner in Vietnam of International Research Laboratories. In the Pharmacological, Medical and Agronomical Biotechnology (PMAB) Department we developed an international Join Laboratory (IRD) supported by both French and Vietnamese Institution to conduct research program on plants of important value, mainly rice and coffee. We also have thigh collaborations, at different levels, with the Institute of Biotechnology in VAST and National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) PMAB is a center for higher education. At PMAB both graduate and professional students find a rich, vibrant, innovative, and affordable academic experience. We offer a range of postgraduate degrees.

Headed by Pr. Michel Lebrun (UM, IRD) and Pr. Do Nang Vinh (AGI), the International Joint Laboratory LMI RICE is hosted since January 2011 in the Agronomical Genetics Institute (AGI) of Hanoi in Vietnam. The LMI RICE results of an association between different Vietnamese (AGI, Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Science, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi) and French (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, Université de Montpellier, Centre de coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement research institutions and Universities) to conduct together challenging and hot research projects and training actions on rice functional genomics and plant biotechnology. The LMI RICE welcome each year Master and PhD students for internship

  1. Institute of Biotechnology – Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

IBT comprises 24 laboratories, all involved in Biotechnology research covering all aspects of life science (human health, animal biotechnology, plant biotechnology, environmental biotechnology)

– IBT feeds lecturers of many subjects in USTH Pharmacological, Medical and Agronomical Biotechnology Master Program.

– IBT lends many laboratories to USTH’s students for their practical training.

– IBT accepts USTH’s students to do their internship in its laboratories.

  1. National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE)

Several projects are conducted between IRD and NIHE in the frame of the international JEAI MySA in the context of a research network on biodiversity and infectious diseases in South-East Asia.

These projects are now extending with USTH to set up a new international joint laboratory dealing with drug resistance, a fundamental and topical issue in Southeast Asia.

The aim of this new program is to study the mechanisms and factors that influence the emergence of drug resistance in Southeast Asia and their consequences in terms of public health in combining three complementary approaches: experimental, observational (in hospitals and in the community) and modeling.
