1.  General Introduction

University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), also – called “Vietnam-France University”, is an unique International Standard Public University in Hanoi established in 2009 under the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and France signed on November, 12th 2009, following the decision number 2067/QĐ-TTg on December, 9th 2009 made by the Prime Minister.

As a public university modeled according to international standards,  USTH is being built with funds from the Government of Viet Nam and a strong support from the French Government, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), Asian Development Bank and the Consortium of 42 universities and researching organizations of France.

On March 18th 2016, USTH was transferred to the VAST, following the decision made by the Prime Minister. This decision was taken to help scientists and other institutes of VAST to actively contribute to the training of USTH students and the development of research.

USTH always focuses on promoting the high quality of training courses in parallel with research activities and strong connections with the leading companies in science and technology in Vietnam.

2. Training System

The University of Science and Technology of Hanoi offers training courses at three levels: Bachelor, Master and PhD. USTH is the first University in Asia to follow the Bologna process for Diploma (LMD system 3/5/8), the model is widely used in most of the universities in Europe. The training duration of Bachelor is 3 years, Master is 2 years and PhD is 3 years. All courses are given in English. All Bachelor and Master training programs have been accredited by the HCERES (The High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education in France).

USTH applies new teaching methods, which are based on student self-sufficiency, initiative, team work and practical experiments. The advanced training programs are strongly associated with research activities and a strong connection with leading companies in Vietnam.

Multi-cultural study environment with excellent international lecturers from various countries over the world: France, USA, and Belgium…and the Vietnamese lecturers holding PhDs and above, with international working experiences in France, Australia, Singapore, Japan…Therefore, USTH brings various internships for overseas programs as well as student exchange programs for students. In 2017, 70% of the third-year students did internship overseas like France, USA, Canada, Thailand, South Korea...

Students have many chances to access to leading laboratories of Vietnam at VAST and international join laboratories. USTH built many world-class laboratories for students such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology, IT laboratories… to adapt to the demands of students.

USTH has various scholarships equivalent  to 100%, 75%, 50% or 25% of the tuition fee for students who have excellent results in interview; students who achieved national and international awards. Students under hard living circumstances, and who are  in remote areas will be eligible to apply for  the finacial aid, supported by USTH.
